About us

Some stories begin with a dream.
Ours began with a friendship.

In the spring of 1999, two best friends, Sarah Whitmore and Kate Leland, stood in front of a small white storefront on a quiet street in Charleston, South Carolina. With nothing more than a shared vision, a few handmade racks, and a deep love for timeless, feminine style, they opened the doors to what would become Maes Moda

What started as a simple neighborhood boutique quickly grew into something far more meaningful. Over the years, our store has become a space where generations of women come to feel seen, comfortable, and beautiful, just as they are.

Sarah and Kate built this boutique with care, trust, and a belief that clothes should never wear the woman — she should wear them. They handpicked every piece with the same attention they gave to every customer, creating not just a store, but a community.

From the very beginning, quality has been at the heart of everything we do. We choose fabrics that feel as good as they look, pay attention to the smallest details, and work only with makers who share our standards. Every item we offer is made to last — pieces you’ll reach for season after season, knowing they’ll always make you feel your best.

Today, 26 years later, that same spirit still lives in every detail, from the soft fabrics we choose to the gentle way we greet each guest. A lot has changed since 1999, but the heart of our boutique remains exactly the same.

We are proud to celebrate over two decades of friendship, fashion, and women supporting women.
And we’re so honored you’re part of our story.

With love,
Maes Moda
